Portraits of the Wild
Portraits of the Wild explores the natural world through its most unstable and vital dimension.
Drawing on sounds from the wild — animals, wind, thunder, friction and matter — the work
creates a landscape that never remains fixed, but continuously emerges, transforms and
disappears.
Moving between contemplation and intensity, the piece evokes a natural world that is both powerful and vulnerable, becoming a call to acknowledge the fragility of our ecosystems and the need to preserve the fauna, flora and landscapes that still surround us.
Sound becomes visual matter. Thousands of particles, conceived as the smallest units of a living
organism, emerge, gather, disperse and disappear, shaped by the frequencies, intensities and
rhythms of the soundscape. Their behaviour creates a landscape in constant transformation: at times
subtle and restrained; at others, erupting into flashes, pulses and intense shifts of colour.
Portraits of the Wild is conceived as a large-scale outdoor installation, projected onto a translucent mesh that keeps the landscape behind partially visible. The projection is supported by a truss structure, with the projector housed in a protected tower, while several upward-facing strobes extend pulses of light throughout the surrounding environment.
A synchronized audiovisual system connects projection, sound and lighting, adapting to the specific conditions of each site.
